Wind through Amsterdam Science Park

Abstract

A south-westerly wind through the real campus, built from the 3D BAG building heights and seen from above the south-east, with the wind running left to right. The wind speed 9 m above the ground is a glowing sheet with tracer streaks, and the buildings rise through it, casting shadows in a sun from the south-west. Sheltered pockets form in the lee of each block and jets run between them. Matrix VI, the Fermioniq office, is the yellow building.

How it was checked

Reference
Collision self-check: 3D Taylor–Green viscosity to 0.5%, float64 and float32; smoke run finite, peak Mach 0.12, mass drift 9e-5
Caveat
Building heights are drawn ×2 so the blocks read; the simulation uses the true heights. The flow sees LoD1.3 blocks at 2 m; the render shows the 3D BAG LoD2.2 meshes with their pitched roofs. Trees and terrain are not modelled. 3DBAG by TU Delft, CC BY 4.0.
